Dear Kevin,

I wanted to tell you again how excited I was to hear back from you!  I am glad that your mother is so special to you; it is very important to have strong bonds with our parents.  I am also very close with my mother; I lived with just her growing up, and I consider her one of my best friends.

I also wanted to share with you some words to live by.  I have two favorite quotes, and after I share each with you, I will explain why I love it:

"Understand that friends will come and go, but with a precious few, you should hold on."

It is very important to have friends; strong social relationships lead to health benefits and overall increased happiness.  I have found that, in my experience through all the different schools I have attended, I have been a member of a lot of different groups of friends.  I have had one best friend for the past ten years, and for this, I consider myself incredibly lucky.  Without her, I don't know that I would be as strong of a person as I am now.  This quote is true; it does not matter how many friends you have, as long as you have a "precious few" who are very, very special.

"Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in twenty years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you ... "

Right now, you are in your youth, which is a beautiful time.  Even though things can be really hard at times, it is important to remember that you have a lot of potential and are capable of so much.  You do not want this to go to waste; you want to look back when you are a grown-up and smile thinking back to your days as a child and a teenager.  So make the most of your time in as many ways as you can; even if things are really, really tough at times, try to make the best of every situation!

I hope you enjoyed these quotes.  They are both taken from "The Sunscreen Song" by Baz Luhrman.  If you can, you should listen to the whole thing because there are a ton of other great pieces of advice in the song!  What words do you live by?  Where do they come from?  Family? Friends? The media?

I hope all is well; I am thinking of you, and I really hope to hear from you soon :)
