Who is my Hero?

Who is my Hero?

Hi! My name is Kim and I am a student at Boston College in Massachusetts. So this time I just wanted to say a little about one of the most important people in my life.

My mother is my hero. She has been through, and continues to go through, more than any other person I know, and the way she perseveres and continues on is as significant as it is beautiful. My mama came to the United States from Peru in 1984. She immediately started high school without knowing English, yet always made the honor roll and graduated with great grades. Since the day I was born, my mama has always put me first before herself. She has raised me and supported me on her own, which is not an easy thing to do. She has worked hard every day to instill in me the values that she learned growing up in Peru. She always put my education first and has emphasized the importance of school since my first day of kindergarten. Probably the most important thing she has done for me was to shape my personality to reflect hers. I have grown up to mirror my mother's strong will and independence. She wanted me to become a strong young woman who would never need anyone else to accomplish something I would want to do, much like how she has lived herself.

Just thinking of everything my mama has done for me makes me appreciate her all over again. She is my hero for sticking to her strongly-rooted values while surrounded by a new culture and environment. She is my hero for raising me with the stern yet affectionate parenting characteristic of a Latina mother. She is my hero for dedicating the last 20 years of her life just to me.
