Who is your hero?

My hero is Terry Fox.  Terry had cancer in his bones.  He was able to get treatment but they had to remove his leg.  Terry didn’t give up on life or feel ashamed of having a prosthetic leg (a fake leg).  Instead, his cancer inspired him to help others.  To raise money for research, Terry decided to run across Canada; he called it the Marathon of Hope.  Terry ran 26 miles a day and would give lectures after finishing a day of running.  But on September 1st, 1980, after 143 days of running, Terry was forced to stop because cancer appeared in his lungs.  Terry had run 3,339 miles (5,373 kilometers).  Unfortunately, Terry died on June 28, 1981 at the age of 22.  But Terry’s story lives on and his efforts have raised over $400 million (about /= 620 billion ush) for cancer research.

Terry Fox is my hero for a few reasons.  He didn’t give up when things became hard.  Terry inspired hope in others.  Terry raised funds so that others would benefit from his situation.  And he inspired millions, including myself.
