It's pretty common here in the US to be asked the question "What are your strengths?" especially for a job or college application.  Most people write things like, hardworking, dedicated, kind, etc.  Those are all very important strengths in the real world.  My most important strength however is different.  In my opinion, my greatest strength is listening.  I have never met a person who didn't have a problem they needed help with or something on their mind that they wanted to talk about.  Everyone has a story.  I have a story, you have a story.  We all have stories that we want and need to share with other people.  I consider my greatest strength to be listening because I give people the opportunity to tell their story, talk about their problem, whatever it may be.  A lot goes on in our lives that make us have different emotions.  Too much happens and we simply can't keep it all inside.  It's not healthy and it's not fair.  No one person should ever feel like they have the world on their shoulders.  Everyone should know that there is someone out there who is willing to help them or to be there for them.  I like to think of myself as that person for everyone.  I always find myself helping people I meet by listening to them and their stories.  I like to be that sound board for people when they just need to talk.  A lot of people have told me that they needed to just talk about things and didn't know who else to talk to other than me.  Hear that makes me know how much others appreciate my always listening and rely on me.  I hope that I can be that person to go to and just talk for you also.
