Donating to Hurricane Katrina

By Leah, Age 13

This summer, as part of the Jewish community, I became a Bat-Mitzvah. This was a very moving experience and I decided that I wanted to share my happiness with other, less fortunate, people. I thought about what was going on in the world and I decided that I should donate to Hurricane Katrina. I donated $150 from the checks I for as gifts. My grandparents decided to match that amount, so it turned into $300. On of my dad’s co-workers said that he would match anybody’s donation, so it turned into $600. Since my dad made the donation through the company, they matched it as well. My donation that started at $150 turned into a $1200 donation! I donated the money to two hurricane relief groups, the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. I feel so good that I made a difference and helped people that were having trouble. I hope many people are inspired by my actions and will also make a donation. It doesn’t matter how much money people donate, every cent counts.
