Falling Into Place - 2005/2006

Here is a picture of me at the parade Krewe d’Etat waiting for another float to come by. To most this picture would symbolize the parade rolling and everything just kind of falling into place, but for me these parades mean the start of the infamous weekend before Mardi Gras. The Saturday and Sunday before Mardi Gras are two very big days when it comes to parades. There are about three parades per day each ending with the super krewes, the larger and more fun parades, Endymion and Bacchus. This year this weekend is different and much more meaningful. I know that it will be a time of forgetting the fact that we’ve lost almost everything, and everything else storm related. It will be a time for the people of New Orleans to actually take part in something they know, like the palm of their hand, for the first time since Katrina. And to think that people didn’t want to have Mardi Gras this year? Whoever thought that must either be really boring or isn’t able to see the inner meaning of Carnival, the feeling of fun, excitement and pride for a tradition that has lasted for more than 150 years and makes New Orleans, New Orleans.
